Trip to Oaxaca to See Mezcal Production

Hello and welcome everybody to our blog. We are very excited to share with you all our different stories, as well as advices, places to go in Oaxaca and etc., so please stay tuned!

This page in Blog we would like to commemorate the story of how we went to Oaxaca.

Mexcaligne was already established, now it was the part to go meet the creators of mezcal. It was a long journey, around 11 hours from Paris to Mexico City and then 2 hours to Oaxaca. Our small team of Marketing and director arrived at night, we were crushed and tired. Our AirBnb was in a very good location, right in the center. We went to sleep right away. In the early morning we went for some coffee and were already waiting for the car to go meet the first creators of the 3 first brands – 9Espiritus, Kalakas and Tomo Rico.

Aldo, what was the 1st thing you’ve noticed when you came to Oaxaca? You’ve never been there, right?

“The first thing that struck me when I arrived in Oaxaca was the vibrant color and energy of the place. It’s true, I hadn’t been here before, so I didn’t know exactly what to expect. The streets are alive with a mix of bright colors, textures, and aromas that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a living canvas. Everywhere you look, there’s a blend of tradition and creativity, from the markets brimming with handmade crafts to the food stalls serving Oaxacan staples. It’s hard not to feel inspired in a place that celebrates its heritage so openly and passionately.”

We have been picked up and driven to eat some breakfast. We saw all of them there. The breakfast was very fulfilling and intriguing. After a very full breakfast we were taken to the 1st palenque. Palenque is a place where mezcal is produced in an artisanal way.

We were explained different types of Agave and saw it in real life. It was fascinating and looked a bit unreal! After that we saw the 2nd stage of production, had some Mezcal(of course) and also had lunch. The whole day was full of discussion, while the Marketing team did not understand a word. But anyways, during that day we were involved in a big community of Mezcal, learned the process and of course learnt more about these 3 brands that we are selling. It felt like going to another planet and learning something very sacred, very ancient, something very intimate.

Stay tuned for our upcoming stories!
