Welcome to our story! Today, we would like to tell you about the creation of Mexcaligne and what’s the story behind it.

It all started here in France and was created by one Mexican, named Aldo.
Aldo, please tell us, why did you decide to work with alcohol? You have never been working in this sphere before, right?
“That’s right; I hadn’t worked in this industry before, but I’ve always admired how mezcal is more than just a drink—it’s a piece of culture and tradition. Working with mezcal allows me to share a taste of Oaxaca’s heritage and bring people together in unique ways. There’s something special about connecting with an industry that’s all about craftsmanship, culture, and quality.”
Where is the name Mexcaligne coming from? Is there a meaning?
“Mexcaligne combines mezcal and igne—a nod to mezcal’s Mexican roots and “igne,” which is inspired by the French word for line or alignment. It represents a fusion of Mexican heritage with French elegance, blending the best of both cultures.”

Why did you decide to sell Mezcal specifically from Oaxaca? There are a lot of different regions that also offer Mezcal.
“Oaxaca is the heart and soul of mezcal production, with generations of mezcaleros who carry on the traditions of crafting this spirit. While other regions produce mezcal, Oaxaca’s distinct flavors, cultural richness, and the depth of mezcal knowledge make it truly unique. I wanted to honor that legacy by sourcing mezcal from this region specifically.”
Do you think Mezcal would work well in France?
“Absolutely! The French appreciation for quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity aligns perfectly with mezcal. I believe the unique smoky flavors and the artisanal process will captivate people looking for something special and different. There’s room for mezcal to become a staple in France’s drink culture.”
What would be your favorite way to enjoy Mezcal? Any secret ways?
“My favorite way is simply neat, in a small glass, to appreciate the smoky aroma and flavors. For a twist, I like pairing it with a slice of orange sprinkled with a bit of chili powder and salt. It enhances the flavors and gives it an authentic touch—plus, it’s a great conversation starter! Also, there are many recipes for amazing cocktails that work very well with our mezcals and chili liquors for any occasion and every season of the year.”

Are you planning to open a shop in the near future in France?
“Yes, we’re exploring options. A physical location could be a great way to showcase mezcal and bring that Oaxacan experience to life in France. For now, we’re focused on building up our online presence and connecting with local venues, but a shop is definitely on our roadmap.”
Where else are you planning to export, besides to France or people can buy from all over Europe?
“France is currently our main focus, but we also offer shipping throughout Europe. Our goal is to make mezcal accessible across the continent, so wherever you are in Europe, we’re ready to bring mezcal to you.”
What’s your favorite type of Alcohol besides Mezcal?
“It has to be beer!! There are so many different kinds of brewing techniques and specificities like with the mezcal and all of them have their own unique qualities and the result is a complex palette of flavors. The beer also offers the possibility to mix it with different flavors, sirups, spiritueux and this attribute I consider amazing. Like mezcal the beers are very good neat or mixed.”

What’s your favorite place in Oaxaca, if you have one, of course.
“Oaxaca City is special to me, with its vibrant markets, incredible food, and the energy of the people. Every visit to the zocalo, or central square, feels like the true heart of Oaxaca, with so much to see, taste, and experience. And for a specific place it has to be any place on the street where you can get a very tasty elote.”
Thank you Aldo, it was a pleasure to get to know Mexcaligne up close!
